Datafathom, LLC is the brainchild of Craig P. McDaniel, Jr., a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and computer enthusiast. He started learning BASIC programming first on his aunt's then outdated Commodore 64 around the age of 13, then using QuickBASIC to create small programs to aid in imagination games he would play with his cousin, Brian.
Jumping ahead to the year 2000, while Craig was in college in Alabama, he began a small consulting business on side while attending classes. Projects usually consisted of website design and development for a few local businesses in the area, as well as Linux consulting and administration for some businesses back home in New Orleans.
After moving back to New Orleans, Craig decided to develop a hosting infrastructure for customer websites to help eliminate any problems with third party vendors, keeping everything in-house. In the mean time, he took a job with a worldwide leading domain registrar, DirectNIC.com, which was also based out of New Orleans and who had just acquired a major datacenter in the area. Since time was limited, Datafathom's primary focus turned to hosting.
In early 2004, after developing software for DirectNIC, Craig decided to branch out completely on his own. Getting back into the consulting business, Datafathom started picking up new customers in and around the New Orleans area, and eventually around the Nation. During the Katrina disaster, due to the choice location of the datacenter and excellent operation staff, all services remained online and customers never lost any hosting services except for a a very brief time when the electricity supply was switched from diesel generator back to the dedicated city power grid.
Today Datafathom provides standard shared hosting services, hosted Zimbra accounts for office collaboration, software development and open source technology consulting services for a multitude of customers.
